Henry Mintzberg

Dr. Henry Mintzberg joined McGill's Faculty of Management in 1968.

Awarded the Bronfman Chair in 1982, Dr. Mintzberg is among the most
distinguished contemporary management authors and is recognized for
his expertise, innovation and dynamism worldwide.
 

Dr. Mintzberg was the first Fellow to be elected to the Royal Society of Canada
from the field of Management and has received many awards and honors for his
work in Canada and abroad, including honorary doctorates from the University
of Venice, University of Lund, UniversitÈ de Lausanne and UniversitÈ de MontrÈal.
He completed a term as President of the Strategic Management Society. He was
among the founding members of this society that unites 1800 Management
academics and practitioners in 44 countries.
 
Within the Faculty, Dr. Mintzberg focuses on executive education. He has received
the Prix du Quebec, the Order of Canada, and the Order of Quebec. In addition to
teaching at McGill, he has been a Visiting Professor at the UniversitÈ d'Aix Marseille
(France), Carnegie-Mellon University, Šcole des Hautes Študes Commerciales (Montreal),
the London Business School (England) and INSEAD (France). He holds a joint appointment
at INSEAD in France.
 
General management and organization (including the process of strategy formation,
the design of organizations and the impact of design on organizations), are
Dr. Mintzberg's current research interests. His well-known books include The Nature
of Managerial Work (1973), The Structuring of Organizations (1979), Power In and
Around Organizations (1983), The Strategy Process (1988, 2nd ed. 1991), and
Mintzberg on Management: Inside Our Strange World of Organizations (1989), several
of which have been translated into many languages. His book, The Rise and Fall of Strategic
Planning, won the best book award of the Academy of Management in 1995. His latest book is
The Strategy Safari. Dr. Mintzberg has contributed to most of the major journals in his
field, including Harvard Business Review, California Management Review and Academy of
Management Review.
 
Dr. Mintzberg's work has also received wide dissemination through conferences and
seminars throughout the world.
